San Juan Islands: 9 years ago

Some of the earliest memories I have are times spent going to the San Juan Islands to look for whales. Specifically when my cousin came to visit us when she was 13. I was five, and to me, my cousin Trisha was one of the oldest, specialist people ever. Thinking about it now, it seems strange since I am a year older than she was and I don't feel like one of those people little kids look up to. You know those people. The ones you followed around and were the most special people ever. Those people where one word from them was like a thousand from the most important king.

Well on that trip I probably annoyed her to death. Wanting to sit by her on the ferry, following her over every rock when all she probably wanted to do was sit and look for whales. Several times I almost fell into a small puddle of seawater trying to go where her long legs could take her and my short ones couldn't. Never really thinking about anything concerning me. Only that I wanted to be like her in every way possible. Whether it be falling in a puddle of ice cold water to follow her, or arguing the day away with my sisters just to sit anywhere near where she was sitting.

Today that cousin live with us. In our used to be dinning room. I still love her in every way possible, but hopefully I don't annoy her to death. =)

The End

  1. I know what you mean! I have a cousin that I really looked up to and wanted to hang out with all of the time when I was younger. I bet she got a little annoyed too.
